Music in Bass Hall w/Apple Hill String Quartet
May 5 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The Apple Hill String Quartet, resident artists at Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, will perform a concert that includes the New England premiere of Five Animal Stories for String Octet and Narrator, by Mike Kelley. The new work features guest artists Jazimina MacNeil, narrator and mezzo-soprano; Ealain McMullin and Cornelia Schwartz, violin; Jesse Holstein, viola; and Jacob MacKay, cello. The work was given its world premiere in Los Angeles on March 18 as part of the Dilijan Concert Series, a series dedicated to showcasing Armenian culture through chamber music. Mike Kelley based the work on ancient Armenian folk tales.
The concert also features Cant voi l’aube, a modern reworking of a 12th-century troubadour song by Caroline Shaw, recent winner of the Pulitzer Prize in composition that features the quartet and Jazimina MacNeil. The concert closes with the late Beethoven string quartet, Op. 130, a work that ends with the monumental Grosse Fugue.
Tickets for the concert are $20 ($18 for members, seniors, and students). Purchase your tickets online or call the Monadnock Center at (603) 924-3235
