Opening Reception: Wendy Parker
March 9 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Wendy W. Parker, of Bennington, NH, will be the featured artist at the DubHub for the month of March. Wendy creates art quilts inspired by the natural world, with beautiful colors and interesting textures found by looking closely at our surroundings. Her opening reception will be held on Friday, March 2, from 5-7pm. Refreshments will be served. Her work will be on display all month and can be viewed during open hours on Mondays and Wednesdays, and during special events.
Wendy writes of her work: “All of my art quilts are free motion quilted (FMQ) on a domestic sewing machine in my home. I create unique fabrics by hand dyeing, marbleizing, silk screening and sun printing to name a few. Art quilting allows me to combined many surface design techniques into a finished pieces of art. Nearly all of my work is realistic in style and often starts with an original photo. Images are created by layering pencils, crayons and archival inks. I drop the feed dog on my sewing machine and use the needle like a pen to outline and fill in the pictures I create with a variety of threads. The intricate quilting surrounding the picture is created the same way. My intention is to create work that draws people in for a closer look and invites them to experience the vivid color texture and patterns within.”
Over the past couple years Wendy Parker has studied with many inspiring fiber artists including free motion quilting with Lori Kennedy, hyper quilting with Patsy Thompson, linear landscapes with Gloria Loughman, mark making and ice dyeing with Susan Purney Mark, fabric collage with Sara Anne Smith, and improvisational fusing with Frieda Anderson and Laura Wolinsky.
