The Portsmouth Peace Treaty & Madame Butterfly

The Friends of the Dublin Public Library in conjunction with Raylynmor Opera of Peterborough and the Japan America Society of New Hampshire are presenting a special program in March to take a closer look at the Portsmouth Peace Treaty and its historical connections with the 1904-1906 premieres of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly opera and the public affairs efforts of Kentaro Kaneko, a frequent visitor to the Dublin home of John Lindon and Corinna Smith.
On Saturday, March 3 at 10 am at the Dublin Public Library, the Friends’ will welcome speaker Charles B. Doleac, author of An Uncommon Commitment to Peace: Portsmouth Peace Treaty 1905 who will present a program describing the efforts of all sides, including those of NH citizens who hosed the event and participants, that resulted in the Portsmouth Peace Treaty — in the context of Puccini’s opera, Madama Butterfly that Raylynmor Opera will present at the Peterborough Players on March 9 and 11.
A question and answer session will follow the illustrated talk. The event is free and open to the public.
