Candidate Profile: Daniel Latini (Zoning Board of Adjustment)

In the final eight days leading up to Peterborough’s 2023 Town Meeting, we will be posting profiles on all candidates — or as many candidates as provide responses to GoMonadnock. We’ve asked all candidates from a given race the same questions and are printing their answers unedited.

What is the proper role of the Zoning Board and how do you intend to fulfill it?

The role of the ZBA to me is to interpret and implement the Zoning Ordinance and help those property owners seeking relief who's property don't meet the Zoning requirements and determining whether their request is valid or not.

Are you qualified for the position you are seeking?

I believe I am, I have been working in this field on the other side helping lot owners seek zoning relief for 4+ years now and presenting their case to various ZBA's across New Hampshire.  I have also been working for municipalities and state gov. in one way or another for 20+ years. I also have a degree in a natural science and I understand how to apply those standards to those seeking relief.

What is your primary motivation for seeking this position?

My motivation for seeking this position is to help the community and the town of Peterborough with my perspective. Not being from this area gives me unique insight that many may not have and how to apply that to new homeowners moving to Peterborough.

What is the greatest challenge facing Peterborough?

The aging out population, and how to mold the Town's needs to the population coming up. I think that new perspectives are needed in many cases with Peterborough that I feel is under-represented often.

What else do you want our readers to know?

I have two children in the Peterborough school district so I'm very invested as to what happens here in town. I have also volunteered with the local Cub Scouts and helped manage the gardens located behind the community center for several years now.
